What kind of more-than-human infrastructures homes have been, presently are, and can be imagined to be?
The study integrates insights from diverse disciplines, including environmental social science research, education, history, social sciences, ecology, evolutionary biology and ecophysiology, to examine past, present, and future storylines of multispecies living.
The project HOMINGS (More than just human homes) is funded by the Research Council of Finland (2024-2028). It investigates the role of homes as dynamic spaces of co-habitation between humans and other species, such as other animals, plants, and microbes. The project explores how these interactions influence sustainability transitions and generate new moral and practical accountabilities.

New Storylines
Via narrative and multispecies life-history approaches, this work package explores temporal storylines: ways in which human homes have always been more-than-human sites.
Via sensory and microbial approaches this work package explores moral storylines: ways in which previously unrecognised forms of life can regenerate moral ideas of more-than-human homes and fuel emergence of new domestic practices in the present.
Via speculative and generative approaches in the present, this work package explores spatially expansive storylines: scenarios of future homes, the environmental conditions of which are shared with more-than-human beings and reach beyond homes as houses by necessity.
This work package collects the materials and insights from WPs1-3 and constructs new storylines of more than human homes.
